Sustaining Village Theatre: A Pillar of Our Community

Changes in audience behaviors are reshaping the theater landscape in Seattle and beyond. Like many theaters nationwide, Village experienced a significant decline in subscriptions during and immediately after the pandemic shutdowns. While audiences have yet to fully return, there are promising signs of recovery in subscription and ticket sales, offering hope for the future.

Encouragingly, Village’s subscription base is on an upward trajectory, with a projected growth of 15-20% between our current and next year’s seasons. This positive trend, while exciting, still leaves us with a gap of nearly 6,000 subscribers from our 2019 numbers.

Village Theatre has been a cornerstone of our communities for over 40 years. To uphold this cherished tradition, we must evolve and strengthen connections with current audiences while reaching out and connecting to new ones.

In order to succeed, we need to:

• Drive marketing and programming strategies that continue to rebuild our subscription base.
• Explore new income streams, ticketing methods, and ancillary programming in Everett.
• Embrace new technologies, such as a modern ticketing system, to enhance our patrons’ experience and make engaging with us seamless.
• Partner with TRG Arts, a leader in revenue optimization for the arts, to fully leverage our newly available data to strengthen our revenue stream.

With these adaptations and initiatives, we are confident in creating a sustainable and thriving future for the theater community.

Reaching new audiences and establishing new revenue streams takes time. To thrive during this transformation and continue creating exceptional art, Village needs an infusion of resources for the next 1-3 years. The Bridge to the Future campaign aims to provide a robust foundation for us to excel artistically while exploring new revenue opportunities and rebuilding our subscription base. We urgently need our supporters to contribute beyond their usual annual giving levels to support this crucial campaign, ensuring our survival as a premier artistic center in the Pacific Northwest.
