When students need to cancel a registration:

• Cancellations prior to one week before the class/camp start date will receive a refund less a $50 registration fee (for school-year classes and half-day camps), or less a $100 registration fee (for all-day camps, production camps, and school year dance programs).
• Cancellations within the week prior to the first day receive a 50% refund.
• Cancellations on or after the first day receive no refund. Tuition paid, less the registration fee, may be applied to another class or camp, or to another student.

KIDSTAGE hires highly trained professional artists and arts educators and provides them with additional training in child development and KIDSTAGE techniques. Most teachers have at least two years experience teaching youth in the performing arts before joining the KIDSTAGE staff. Instructors are also required to pass a Washington State Patrol check and complete the Village Theatre Conduct with Minors form and an extensive orientation before working with students.

MEET OUR INSTRUCTORS

Classes use creative dramatics, music and movement, familiar story themes, games, arts and crafts, and lots of IMAGINATION to explore the fun of theatre. The KIDSTAGE class curriculums are designed to use theatre arts to encourage collaboration, teamwork and communication, respect for self and others, healthy and constructive behavior choices, as well as build self-esteem and confidence.

Select summer camps based on the grade your student will be entering in the fall. For example, if your student is entering the first grade this fall, select summer camps for first graders.

As space is limited in many of our facilities, parents/guardians are encouraged to leave their student with us after drop-off and enjoy time to themselves, exploring town or grabbing coffee.

KIDSTAGE does not allow parents/guardians in the classroom, as their presence may be a distraction to students. Upon arrangement with KIDSTAGE staff, parents may be able to unobtrusively observe their students from outside the classroom and listen in to the activities. Please contact KIDSTAGE staff directly to facilitate.

Families will be invited to see a demonstration of what their students have accomplished in class on the final day.

As of January 7, 2023: Village Theatre KIDSTAGE strongly recommends but will no longer require proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test for students in KIDSTAGE classes and camps.

In addition, masks will now be encouraged but optional for students in classes and camps.

FYI:

• All Village Theatre and KIDSTAGE Staff, including instructors, will still be required to wear masks for Winter 2023, and have been required to be fully vaccinated since September 15, 2021.
• KIDSTAGE Productions have a different masking and vaccination requirement.

In order for your student to be on site, we require the following:

1. Students should not attend if exhibiting signs of illness (fever, cough, etc.).
2. A Hold Harmless Form.
   • If you registered online, you already completed the Hold Harmless as part of the online registration process.
   • If you did not register online, and have not done so already, please submit this form before arriving on site.

Drop Off: On the first day of class/camp, we ask that an adult accompany their student to the check-in area.  After the first day, students may check in independently. Students will be given a nametag and materials for the day, then will be directed by their instructor to the classroom space. Parents/guardians and siblings may not enter the classroom, but are welcome to be in our lobby spaces.

Pick Up: Parents and guardians are welcome to wait at the place of check in, or outdoors, until their student is released. Students will return their nametag to KIDSTAGE staff when they see their parent/guardian, and then will be dismissed.

Drop-off will be at the Cope Gillette Theatre located at the Wetmore Plaza. From there, students will be directed to go to their class location. There are drop-off zones around the buildings off Wetmore Ave. and California Ave. There is 90min. street parking (and all-day pay parking garages) available around all our buildings. Please allow ~15min. for drop-off/parking and check-in. End-of-class pick-up will also happen in the Wetmore Plaza.

Closer look:

Please e-mail us at kidstage@villagetheatre.org for absences or late arrivals. We are not attending to the phones in the office during the class day, and e-mail is the best way to let us know. It is important that students try to attend class each day. There will be no makeup sessions for absences. Please do not send your student to class if they are sick, running a fever, or have any other COVID-19 symptoms.

On the final day of class or camp, family and friends are invited to observe a small in-class demonstration that allow them the opportunity to see what students have been working on all session. Demonstrations usually include: theatre games used during the session to teach specific theatre concepts, student explanations of terms and skills learned, and a presentation of some form of a story (improvised, guided or scripted).

More details, including a final sharing schedule, will be sent to families as we approach the end of the session.

Students should wear comfortable clothing for movement and secure fitting, closed-toe shoes.

*Skirts/dresses should have shorts underneath.
*For Dance classes, there is NO requirement for specific dance shoes. For Tap dance, tap shoes are highly recommended. Instructors will share dance shoe information on the first day of class.”

Let us know before classes start! E-mail kidstage@villagetheatre.org. We can properly prepare our instructors and space, if we are given adequate notice. We will do our absolute best to accommodate all access needs. We want to be sure your student feels comfortable, welcome, and safe in our space!

There will be water/bathroom breaks throughout the class, and students are welcome to have a quick snack at that time, if they need to. (Also, if a student is taking multiple classes, they are welcome to bring their own snack/lunch to eat during their individual break.) All-day summer camps will have a ½ hr lunch break. Students must bring their own snack/lunch and a filled water bottle labeled with student name. KIDSTAGE is a NUT-FREE ZONE. Please, DO NOT bring tree nuts or peanuts. Thank you!

Students taking multiple classes are welcome to stay onsite in the building during their break. We’ll ask that they remain in their assigned “break space” (as determined by KIDSTAGE staff) until their next class starts. KIDSTAGE Staff will be monitoring the break spaces, but may not be in the break space at all times.

We strongly encourage students to use the restroom before class starts.  We expect all students to be independent, self-sufficient bathroom users.  Gender neutral bathrooms are available.

If a class/camp does not have sufficient enrollment to go forward, we reserve the right to cancel the class/camp.

• Two weeks prior to the first day, we will notify families via email that enrollment is low and the class/camp may be cancelled. Families are encouraged to recruit friends to join in the fun so that we can have enough enrollment to move forward.
• One week prior to the first day, a class/camp with low enrollment will be cancelled, and families notified via email. If there is space in other classes or camps, we will happily transfer the student, otherwise, a full refund will be provided.

If something unforeseen occurs which prohibits the class/camp from taking place, we reserve the right to cancel the class/camp. We will notify families as early as possible, and a full refund will be provided.

When inclement weather occurs, KIDSTAGE will alert families via email regarding impacts to class schedules. We try to give at least four hours of notice for schedule changes. In the event of a class cancellation, KIDSTAGE will offer an online class, or a make-up class, if either are possible. Classes which take place at a school will be cancelled when the school is cancelled. All communication will come via email.
