Inside KIDSTAGE Jesus Christ Superstar

We have the “buzz” on KIDSTAGE’s Jesus Christ Superstar in Concert!
Director Jimmy Shields recently spoke with us about his experience directing Village Theatre’s KIDSTAGE productions and what makes KIDSTAGE Jesus Christ Superstar in Concert a must-see!

Tell us about your journey with Village Theatre’s KIDSTAGE.
I actually started working with KIDSTAGE during the pandemic. I taught at both locations via Zoom for about a year and then also a couple years in person. I directed The Prom for SummerStock and was the choreographer for The Lightening Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical, as well as a ton of workshops and summer camps. I love the professional aspect of the program and getting to watch the kids grow and learn tools to tackle the world!

What’s it like directing a concert production compared to a fully stage musical?
I LOVE concerts. They are special to me. They allow you to experience the show in a different way, which allows for fun and creative blocking and storytelling that you might not be able to get away with in a fully staged musical. I feel like it lets the audience loosen up a bit and enjoy instead of analyze.

Why should audiences come see KIDSTAGE Jesus Christ Superstar in Concert?
Audiences should see this show because the cast is phenomenal and it’s not a show that is produced very often these days. There’s no better way to familiarize yourself with the show, or just enjoy again for the umpteenth time! It’s truly an experience!

JIMMY SHIELDS, he/him (Director) is a full-time artist in every sense of the word. Whether it be on the stage or behind the table, the arts have always been a driving force in his life. Previous work includes: The Prom (Village Theatre’s KIDSTAGE); You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Mamma Mia!, Dreamgirls, Hairspray, and Matilda (Village Theatre).
