BroadwayWorld: The hope and heart of America comes to Village Theatre
Jasmine Jean Sim and company
“The show, from top to bottom, is a solid one. Stunning vocals in a masterful piece of theater. And so, with my three-letter rating system, I give Village Theatre’s production of Ragtime a heart swelling YAY. With the current state of our country, it’s important to see a show that shows how far we’ve come, and how far we have not.”
“Director Joe Calarco certainly understands the heart of the piece….[aided by] wonderfully period choreography from Jimmy Shields.”
“The set from Christopher J. Mumaw… was gorgeous. Equally gorgeous were those costumes from Sarita P. Fellows. And kudos to music supervisors Tim Symons and Sheilah V Walker for a near flawless sound.”L to R: Zhanea June, Donovan Mahannah, Arlando Smith, Brandi Birdsong, Chandler T. Thomas, and Yusef D Seevers
“But it’s this ensemble that truly made it special…. [Kooper] Campbell too brought in some fantastic vocals and character to his dreamer of a Younger Brother. [Jasmine Jean] Sim showed off some fantastic range in a role quite different than what I’m used to from her, and she nailed it….And I must call out Zhanea June as Sarah’s friend who lent some soul piercing vocals to the act one closer “Til We Reach That Day”.
The Seattle Times: A gloriously sung production — go see it!
“It’s a joy to hear this powerful cast on the show’s ensemble numbers.”
Allison Standley, Jed Resnick, & Matthew Posner
“[Allison] Standley, who’s been hiding a powerful belt in her clarion soprano, brought a playful, almost goofy quality to Mother, which was a lovely foil to [Jed] Resnick’s ferocious tenderness as Tateh, when those two characters finally collide…
“But it’s [Yusef D] Seevers and [Jaden] Dominique, both independently and together, whose incomparable voices and powerful performances wrap around you like a vine. So potent and alive is their hard-earned love and the fragile hope they conjure, imagining a better future for their infant son.”

The Sound on Stage: Tremendous Power… Beautiful Balance
Jaden Dominique & Yusef D Seevers
“When Coalhouse and Sarah finally allow themselves to imagine their future together in “Wheels of a Dream,” Yusef [Seevers] and Jaden [Dominique] bring tremendous power individually but are beautifully balanced against one another. There is a purity to their voices, filled with hope, love and determination. The song becomes an anthem for the life they believe is waiting for them and, by extension, for the promise that drew so many different people toward the idea of America in the first place.”
