My team and I pitched Head Over Heels with a singular mission in mind, to provide Queer youth with the chance to live their most authentic lives on the stage.

The artistic vision of this show celebrates and emphasizes the beauty and excellence of people of color, trans identities, LGBTQ+ identities, disabled creatives, plus-sized creatives, and women. We especially encourage individuals from these communities to participate in this show, whether it be in the audience, the cast, or the crew.

I am so excited to educate KIDSTAGE students on, and allow them to participate in, Black and Queer history through this show! Head Over Heels is a love letter to the communities I come from and will feature Black and Queer excellence throughout the entire process. It is an honor and a privilege to provide KIDSTAGE with the opportunity to teach students Drag, Vogue, and other aspects of Queer and Ballroom Culture. I want to highly encourage Queer youth of color like myself to participate with this show! It is my dream to create a space for you within the KIDSTAGE program!

The Summer Independent program is a professionally mentored program unique to Village Theatre. Unlike most KIDSTAGE productions, the focus is on the production team instead of the actors. Students take on every aspect of production, from performing, directing, and stage management, to designing and building sets, creating costumes, running sound and lights, marketing, production management, and more. It the pinnacle experience for students who come with a background in live theatre, and it provides autonomy, resources, and mentorship to select, mount, and produce their own full-scale show from start to finish.

Village Theatre’s entire professional staff—from the shops to the marketing office to the stage managers and beyond—are involved in mentoring the artistic team, all of whom are considered professional interns. The Summer Independent program is an entry point to professional theatre for the entire production team and Summer Independent performers are challenged with the goal of reaching the highest professional standards possible.
