There is an apartment complex that seems unremarkable on the outside, like all the other boring buildings on a plain urban street, but is in fact filled with people on the precipice of something great. Some are working on their next big hit, or daring to ask that person they see in the elevator on a date, or just creating new ways to make their customers happy. Each resident is at the dawn of something new, uncharted. Pushing beyond their boundaries to achieve a goal. This interwoven narrative musical explores what it means to be human and on the cusp of greatness.
What is a Staged Reading?
Last year’s production of I’m Doing This was presented as a staged reading, where actors performed the show holding scripts and with minimal design elements, staging, or choreography. The show was not memorized, and new pages and script/music changes were made up until opening night. The first presentation of a new work is typically done as a reading.
This year’s production will culminate in a second staged reading, building on the material written by the writers last season. This reading will be performed over one weekend.
Callbacks for I’m Doing This will be Monday, December 12 (same day as auditions) from 7:00pm-9:00pm. Callbacks will take place in person at the Cope Gillette Theatre, 2730 Wetmore Avenue, Everett, WA 98201.

KIDSTAGE Originals is an original musical project created by emerging theatre artists. Students generate their own original material under the mentorship and guidance of a professional writing, composing, and directing team.
Once the writing team has a completed script, student actors are added to the process and the show is shared with an audience for feedback regarding their script and story. This process is designed to teach students about process of creating a show from script to stage, and provide students the life skills of collaboration, compromise, communication of ideas, and receiving critical responses to creative endeavors, among many others.
KIDSTAGE Originals productions are written by, for, and about teens, and can address some of the most important issues to teens today. Past KIDSTAGE Originals shows include: Last Exit, In Your Eyes, Save As…, Hot Mess, Playing Fair, This is What They Tell Me, Sincerely Yours, Out of Bounds, and All That Glitters – A Rock Legend.
