How We Came To This: A Virtual Cabaret
Technology is expanding the possibilities of connecting through art—even while in-person collaboration and performance is on hold during a global pandemic. The student team of KIDSTAGE Everett Summer Independent has created a unique way to mix the world into their art and achieve a sense of catharsis, community, and clarity through the process. The result is a digital cabaret performance that allows the students to express how they are coping with current issues ranging from the isolation of quarantine to the Black Lives Matter movement and even the unique experience of dating over Zoom.

The Summer Independent program is a professionally mentored program unique to Village Theatre. It is the pinnacle theatrical experience for students in the KIDSTAGE program and provides autonomy, resources, and mentorship to aspiring theatre professionals to produce their own full-scale show from start to finish. Unlike other KIDSTAGE productions, emphasis is put on the design, creation of the show, and peer-to-peer mentorship. Students take on every aspect of producing; from directing to designing and building sets, creating costumes, running sound and lights, marketing, management, and more.
There are no auditions scheduled at this time. Information about auditions for this program is typically posted in March of each year.
The Summer Independent program is looking for designers, assistants, musicians, and stage crew for productions. All Summer Independent participants are students age 14–25, with a strong interest in pursuing a career in theatre.
