A Stephen Schwartz Musical Scrapbook

Featuring the beloved songs of Stephen Schwartz (creator of Wicked), this new musical is a charming, funny, and familiar look at life and love. After 20 years of marriage, Dan and Sue have reached a point where they simply have nothing left to say to each other. But when they uncover a box of photos in the attic, their memories literally come to life, helping them take a look back at the moments that built their relationship as well as the opportunities that got lost along the way.

This romantic comedy is a musical celebration of the work of Stephen Schwartz, featuring 26 songs from 12 shows throughout his career. When Schwartz heard the concept, he fell in love with the idea and got personally invested, re-tuning and adjusting his own songs to better fit the story, and bringing new life to the familiar melodies.

Village Theatre first got involved in this exciting project in 2005, when Snapshots made its debut in Issaquah as a Village Originals Developmental Production. Since then, the show has enjoyed additional small-scale productions as the writers worked to polish the script. Now, Village Theatre’s Mainstage production marks the final stages of development as the show returns to the Pacific Northwest for this full-scale production.

THE SONGS Here’s just a glimpse at a few of the songs included in Snapshots:

  • Popular (Wicked)
  • All Good Gifts (Godspell)
  • Meadowlark (The Baker’s Wife)
  • That’s How You Know (Disney’s Enchanted)
  • The Spark of Creation (Children of Eden)
  • I’m Not That Girl (Wicked)
  • Hardest Part of Love (Children of Eden)
  • And Many More...

  • Fun Facts about Snapshots
    • Stephen Schwarz has been nominated for the Tony Award for Best Score six times with his first nomination in 1973 and his most recent in 2004.

    • His most recent nomination was in 2004, for the smash-hit Wicked.

    • Snapshots is neither a revue musical nor a jukebox musical. Because Schwartz himself altered the original music to fit the new story, the show represents an entirely new genre of musical theatre.

    • This new musical includes 25 songs from 12 different musicals spanning 37 years of Schwartz’s work.
