The pieces performed in this distinctively original revue originated as writings
contributed to the "Modern Love" column in the style section of the Sunday New
York Times. Director Martin Charnin selected eight titles as diverse, perceptive,
and dramatic subjects, all written with great wit and style, and all dealing with
various aspects of the complicated and continuously elusive feeling — Love. Aside
from their subject matter, the column had one more thing in common — they
were monologues — they could be spoken, and in speaking them and acting them,
they become even more personal, more profound, more touching and feel even
richer and more fulfilling. Although they are mostly the voices of women, when
performed, they become gender, age, and race friendly. The addition of seven
original songs, written in collaboration with Seattle's own Richard Gray, honor
the stylistic tone and approach of the monologues, to become "song-alogues,"
all in all, creating a rewarding and unique theatrical entertainment.
