Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice were deeply fascinated by the role of Judas Iscariot in the final days of Jesus of Nazareth’s life, so when crafting Jesus Christ Superstar the prolific duo made a decision to keep both Judas and Jesus’ views in mind. In recognizing that these roles complement each other, Village Theatre has taken a visionary approach by casting two actors to switch between the roles of Jesus and Judas every other performance. This approach poses an artistic challenge for two very talented actors, while providing audiences with the opportunity to see two different approaches to the lead roles in this legendary rock opera.
